My final project at University was something I wanted to be monumental; something special that accumulated everything I had learned and something I had been wanting to do properly since I was 13 years old. I was finally ready for it. I had a guitar body, a manual written in Mandarin, 60 hours, and a crate of Red Bull.

I chose to create a guitar sold by Gibson as my crowning final project. It would entail designing the artwork, building the guitar, shooting the product (still and motion), and creating a web presence and print advertisements.

I wanted to create a signature version of the classic Les Paul design with a rockstar in mind. I had many heroes to choose from, but with what I had in mind, it could only belong to the one and only Slash. With his side-band even being named “Slash’s Snakepit,” I knew there couldn’t have been anyone better to use for inspiration.

The beast I was lucky to have access to for this project was an Epilog Fusion M2 Laser Series. Alignment was an insanely manual and stressful process in order to ensure the artwork sat perfectly across the convex surface.
